Earning a Ticket to Ride

I don’t believe that there ought to be

a free ride into eternity.

There should be tickets for which we pay

tomorrow; for the rides of today.

Most people have failed to realize

Nothing is free in our paradise.

If it seems to cost too much,

Perhaps we ought to go dutch.

If there is paradise anywhere,

all of us should be willing to share.

By now some of us have learned

we only get what we have earned.

We have all been saved by grace.

Something loves the human race.
