Where Nonsense Begins

Poems start with a question

or a likely suggestion.

We have to begin somewhere;

perhaps even with a prayer.

What i usually do

is write down a line or two.

I don’t care if it’s nonsense,

It is a place to commence.

From there on it is downhill.

It tends to go where it will.

If those first two lines rhyme

as they will most of the time

i will continue that way.

It says what it wants to say.

As for the road not taken

i may have been mistaken.

By choosing the one i took

instead of the one forsook.

I may break all of the rules

used by traditional fools.

If you like consistency,

you probably won’t like me.
