The Wave of the Future

As i begin to understand

why nonsense is in demand

i am still addicted to rhyme

and a sense of meter and time.

I once felt poems should mean

and free verse was just obscene.

Now i begin to realize

that Avant Garde poets are wise

in making freer poetry

with a nonsense philosophy.

By leaving tradition behind

they have a real purpose in mind;

to make poetry understood,

to understand what’s bad or good.
