No Time for Fun

We Americans used to be

familiar with poetry.

Now, most of it doesn’t rhyme;

meaningless most of the time.

It is not the fault of the poet

that no one seems to know it.

The poets are not to blame;

the poems are still the same.

When was the last time you read

poems written by the dead?

Now we don’t have time enough

to read nonsensical stuff.

Most of us are too busy

to be reading poetry.
