cheap but tasty diet

if my eyes and my ears

hold out many more years

i will be a spirit

able to hear it.

if angels come for me

i’ll be able to see.

my legs are giving out

and this i worry about.

i’m afraid i’ll be late

and death will have to wait.

in the meantime i’ll try

to laugh until i die.

i wonder if this means

corn bread and turnip greens.
