Mid-July in Tucson
I may have forgotten the rain.
Will it ever come back again?
The monsoon has been teasing us.
It is unreliable thus.
The clouds are all full of moisture,
exacerbating our torture.
The lightning seems too far away
to suggest it will rain today.
Who told us we should come here
where rain seldom deigns to appear?
“I’m afraid that we had no choice”
whispered a small but urgent voice.
They say the heat is always dry.
But, that still doesn’t tell us why.
