The Soul Selects
The soul selects
her own society–
then shuts the door.
Emily Dickinson
Perhaps she may
have opened the way
for poets today
to say what they say.
We select a few
for our good friends too,
ostracize the rest.
Hiding may be best.
She was exclusive,
sometimes abusive.
But, being obscure
is private for sure.
If you penetrate
our poems, that’s great.
