Death and Eternity
When Longfellow said his prayers
he left his poems to his heirs.
It is we, who follow, who say,
“Each of us has a role to play.”
Our poems will still carry on
after our bodes have all gone.
The dead poets society
will accept each of us nicely.
In the meantime we try to do
what our consciences tell us to.
Even poems which do not rhyme
outlive the ravages of time.
We remember what they have said
long after their bodies are dead.
