The Consciousness of Self

Which comes first in consciousness,

yourself or your surroundings?

You may first look out than in

where awareness may begin.

We may not have to look too far

to learn who other folks are,

but we are ourselves obscure,

buried in our own allure.

A tiny mischievous elf

who is a part of myself

takes life less seriously

and laughs at the rest of me.

I think i might laugh also

at the source of my ego.
