Death Has a Claim

Residents on Earth
have a temporal lease
which is sure to expire

But our souls have
a stake in eternity
which is forever

Which we should treasure
and always nourish
is very obvious

Our senses demand
a primary claim
for temporal bodies

No wonder God says
“Throw the rascals out”
to relieve our vanity

Divine intelligence
is not encumbered
by a selfish body
