We Choose or Pay Our Dues

What kinds of choices have we had

of being good or being bad?

If there is predestination,

there should be no hesitation.

But, if genes and memes are a mix,

we’re all in a hell of a fix.

We either inherit or learn

which end of the candle to burn.

If God is the sole forecaster,

then burning both ends is faster.

If life is something to get through,

we will know what we have to do.

If we believe heaven is now,

then just have fun and take a bow.
