We Americans

A mixture of many races

from distant, remembered places,

being grateful and reverent

in this most favored continent.

I was lucky to be born here,

not coming as a volunteer,

but however we all arrived

we have adapted and survived.

Let’s welcome those who want to come

and not be exclusive to some.

I praise their determination

to be part of this great nation.

I thank whatever gods may be

for our national destiny.
