Is the End in Sight?

When the Mayan calendar ends

Does the world end? That all depends.

It depends on definitions

and who’s talking and who listens.

The word “world” can mean many things

to both the peasants and their kings,

for it is very hard to please

both the dirty dog and his fleas.

Eternity may seem naive

to those who don’t want to believe

there is no beginning or end

and have assumptions to defend.

And yet, only three years from now,

we will know if it ends–and how.
