Genes, Memes and Circumstance.

Do we know what it really means

to have characteristic genes?

These are traits we inherited

rather than being merited;

while our memes, on the other hand

are easier to understand.

These are features we have acquired

which society has inspired.

That small glint in your father’s eye

is not the only reason why

we turned out to be what we are

for genes can only go so far.

While genes may result from romance,

our memes are born from circumstance.
