Poetry and Politics
Poets fight the establishment
and the greedy they represent.
But, the poets have to endure
indignities of being poor.
They put the heart above the mind;
that is wealth of another kind.
They prefer socialism,
not greedy capitalism.
But some poets have sold their soul
and prestige has become their goal.
Most politicians started out
as true idealists no doubt.
Is poetry like politics?
That's what most poets want to fix.
