Spendthrifts or Skinflints
Will thrift and discipline return
as we have less money to burn?
Perhaps humans will never learn
we shouldn’t spend more than we earn.
The money lenders say we should;
and being thrifty isn’t good.
Self-discipline is understood
as having less things than we could.
Inflation, somehow, seems to say
get whatever you want today;
for later, when you have to pay,
dollars are cheaper anyway.
Don’t forget about usury;
buying on credit isn’t free.
