Non-sequitur
A non-sequitur–what is that?
It is a non-cohesive phrase;
doesn’t follow what went b4,
is non-related anymore.
So why does one ever appear,
even in poems by Shakespeare?
Because we need to stump our toe.
b4 our roots begin to grow.
We’re too complacent, as it is,
and need a stumbling block like this.
A change of direction may be
the better road to sanity.
What did the poet have in mind?
A wake-up alarm of some kind.
