Dressed Up to Meet God
I never sought an illusive god
who runs barefoot while i am shod.
I always seem dressed up to meet
a god willing to wash my feet.
I looked in churches and temple
for a god who was that simple.
But the god i sought lived outdoors,
and was walking barefoot, of course.
One day a hungry coyote
returned my own glance remotely
and i had met god in his eyes
with all the prestige he denies.
God is neither good nor naughty
but most of all isn’t haughty.
