At Least Whole Grain Biscuits
The whole grain biscuits for which we call
is answered by no biscuits at all.
Cornbread has been answered the same way.
Can we have fresh turnip greens anyway?
Diabetic southerners have learned
requests for healthy foods will be spurned.
For breakfast, what do we have instead
of whole grain biscuits and/or cornbread?
Sugar-coated pastry and do-nuts
and without any ifs, ands, or buts.
You’d think the south had lost the war
and everything worth fighting for.
Give us fresh crowder and black-eyed peas
and can we have some Brunswick stew, please.
