Refrains of the Anchor Lifters
The work of the world must be done;
singing together makes it fun.
It puts rhythm in our labor
which might otherwise be graver.
If you can whistle while you work;
ditch-digger, carpenter, or clerk,
you earn with the sweat of your brow
but you are enjoying it now.
Your songs may be fancy or plain.
You can even sing in the rain.
While singing, it’s hard to complain.
Anyway, that would be in vain.
Heave ho as we work together
don’t complain about the weather.
