A Path to God
Cosmic consciousness may not be
the pulse of my eternity.
Will there be an enlightenment
for we who are irreverent?
I will not be a sycophant
or practice a meaningless chant
in hopes that i will be reborn,
or accept things which i now scorn.
Rites and worship appear obscene
since i can’t be sure what they mean.
However, i commune, of course,
with a benign, powerful force.
I suppose that means that i pray–
and that is reverence–my way.
