If Only
Do your fanciful daydreams keep you in,
not what is real, but what might have been?
Such fantasies are never memories
but a sort of wishful-thinking disease.
You say, “Is there anything wrong with that?
I could have been slender instead of fat.”
You could have been skinny but you are not.
We have to live with the body we’ve got.
But, most of us have an inclination
to give free rein to imagination.
It is better to think of what still might be
than living in a made-up history.
But it doesn’t matter what i proclaim,
you make the rules in your own magic game.
