Mama’s Dog
How my first dog became named Fritz;
(he was a white Eskimo Spitz)
was because of his own collar
which mama bought for a dollar.
It already had his name on it
though we didn’t know who done it.
He was caught by a dog catcher
who feared that he might attack her.
He was taken to the dog pound
where all kinds of stray dogs are found.
It was mama who picked him out
because he was pretty no doubt.
I had wanted a dog named Hal
who just seemed more like a boy’s pal.
