To have a jingle cross your mind
on the way to lost memory
illumines the past and future,
with darkness put to flight.
To memorize our history
gives approval to a mistake
and justifies the fruits of greed,
making truth a blind statistic.
Understanding any of that
you must be loony as a bat
or at least have an MFA
or be teaching it anyway.
You need some way to make a buck
if you can’t teach, you’re outta luck.
