An Accidental Double Entendre
Sometimes a single meaning is meant
but double entendre is evident.
The poet, himself, may never know
which way he intended to go.
Often, when the sonnet is through
he will see his purpose anew.
He started with a homily
which turned into philosophy.
When the poem, itself, takes control
the author may play a minor role.
Then the poet, himself, will find out
what he has been talking about.
An explication may be wrong
which the poet knew all along.
