Transcending Art
Communication; self to gods*
to whom quiet reverence nods;
the only meaning of prayer,
and the gods know we have been there.
     Is this like self-consciousness?
I think it is more and not less.
     Cosmic consciousness, like a stream
is more like an eternal dream.
I think Emily Dickinson
may have been the outstanding one
to recognize diversity
as a vision of unity,
knowing each of us is a part
and expressing it in her art.

*Our gods are intangible things,
not anthropomorphic* beings.
That does not mean they are less than real
but more on the plane of ideal.
     *Anthropomorphic is defined
as being somewhat like mankind.
Personal gods could imply
they are something we could deny.
     The gods who are personalized.
insist they be capitalized.
Our gods are on a higher plane
and to worship them is profane.
The god i am most aware of
is that ideal which is called love.
