The Muse in a Quandary
My smug superiority
among the great majority
of my most understanding peers
is less arrogant than appears.
I am an humble country boy.
The smugness i seem to employ
is a trick which all writers use
while pretending to be a muse.
We’re not as smart as we pretend,
blowing our wisdom in the wind.
If you want to doubt what i say,
it is only a game we play.
Can you imagine anyone
who finds poetry so much fun?
