The Conscience of the Conscious
The defiance of attitude
when wealth and prestige are pursued
generates a small voice within
which calls solipsism a sin.
How else are we able to see
our own personal dignity?
Perhaps gremlins, angels, or elves
is how we visualize ourselves.
Conscience finds it hard to admire
worldly things we seek to acquire.
It’s attitude, which we can learn,
teaches us what we ought to spurn.
But, we have very little choice
if we can hear that inner voice.
