Retired–Almost Expired
We country boys are like city folk,
only more so; we have accidentally
stepped in more fresh cow pies
and sweated more than perspired.
A bucolic life on a farm
is constrained by unpleasant odors.
We are owned by the land we live on,
however generous the owner.
A retirement home is something else;
neither sweat nor perspiration
is ever required of the residents,
but patience by the patients.
Life proceeds in a walker lane
never stepping in cowshit again.
