Poetic Vocabulary
Casually tossing off words
like lapsarian
half-wondering what they meant,
i ventured into poetry.
There the fall of man from innocence,
with the help of his mate,
was elaborately defined;
until anomie prevailed.
The spiritual quest for truth
evaporated with my youth
when sweat of brow became the way
i earned my living ev’ry day.
Finally, after retiring,
I’ve learned to call it perspiring.
