Cute as a Bug
I think cockroaches kept nibbling
on the toes of Rudyard Kipling
He awoke with calluses gone,
better able to carry on.
These despised little creatures do
only what they are supposed to.
There is purpose for all of us.
It sometimes seems miraculous.
Geniuses have assistants
but often they keep their distance;
anonymous–always unknown
in dark closets where they have grown.
If you’re about to squash a bug,
he may really deserve a hug.
