Poetry And Camaraderie
Richard Hugo, poet, professor,
an ordinary man or lesser,
who drowned his loneliness in beer
has chronicled his presence while here.
I suppose we all write about
our own passions and our doubt.
Some other poets poems may touch
the things we care about very much.
We think “Hey, that sounds just like me.”
If we do, it is poetry.
Not too great but sincerity
expressed simply and honestly.
Some great poets may seem to be
as simple and honest as me.
