If It Smells Good It Is Good
How will we know a great poem?
You have to be smart to know’em.
I suspect there were quite a few
we didn’t recognize when new.
Perhaps the only way to know
is because some critic says so.
Hail to the poet whose phrases
the critic constantly praises.
Well, most of us don’t know enough
to be critical of this stuff.
Those who teach poetry classes
have got their nose up their asses.
A brown nose critic may be fine
but they won’t find greatness in mine.
