The Future Is Now
Is this the best part of my life?
No! Because i have lost my wife.
Otherwise i cannot complain
except i have a lot of pain.
The golden years seemed promising;
these years my retirement would bring.
I thought i’d play tennis a lot
but now i’m retired and i’m not.
I started to play but i fell
and my hip was hurting like hell.
I fell off my bicycle too.
It was hard to know what to do.
I’ve adapted to my old age,
my book of life has turned a page.
Some things i have had to abjure
like bullshit has become manure.
I have kept more people alive
by deciding i shouldn’t drive.
I have now found that i can get
good music on the internet.
I am listening to much more
classics than i had heard B4.
I write more poems ev’ry day
although i don’t have much to say.
I have more time to meditate;
about things i anticipate,
and i am full of gratitude
for my own upbeat attitude.
