Do Trees Make Shade?
If i should wander now
in woods i knew as a child
are the Dogwoods still there?
I don’t know how long Dogwoods live
but they are surely born again
and may have memories like us.
Can these trees remember me
as the child i used to be
or even know that i was there?
I find it hard to believe
that trees are totally naive
but i may wonder if they care.
I like to speculate about
some things which others seem to doubt,
like who has self-consciousness.
I am not so conceited to think
we humans are the only ones
2 B aware of millions of suns.
