Colorful Phrases, or Cows
Without any ifs, ands, or buts
most poets are a little nuts.
Without a lot of dignity,
imaginations wild and free.
We disobey grammatic rules;
like wildly undisciplined fools.
The poetic license we claim
can make us outlaws just the same.
Really bound by our tradition
which may sound like superstition,
our searching for a graceful phrase
obscures the part which nonsense plays.
Meditating lavender cows
live in the pastures where we browse.
