Why I Bring Copies
Sometimes a poet can recite his song
putting in stresses where they belong;
but i like a printed verse before me
because the sound of his voice may bore me.
And i like to take his poem away
to read it again another day.
Then, i may be able to pause
and see if he has broken any laws.
I like to relish some of his phrases
and sense his laughter and his rages.
Just listening to his recitation
doesn’t fill me with anticipation.
Poems aren’t always better when said;
but often to read leisurely instead.
