Now Hear This!
The title should anticipate
and focus readers’ attention.
Perhaps it should agitate
for a moment of suspension.
What is this poet saying now?
Some nonsense or philosophy.
It is not sentences somehow.
Maybe it is a rhapsody.
Somewhere between the sense and sound
a little syntax hangs around.
Now the rhyme pattern is screwy.
We don’t want consistence do we?
Why do poets have to be nuts
writing songs with ifs, ands, and buts?
