Let It Shine
When i was young, the ostracized Jews
looked at golf courses they couldn’t use
while the blacks in the back of the bus
were never as privileged as us.
All these dregs of the human race
bore their burdens with a sense of grace;
until some rebels among them were
finally as revolted as her.
A young, exhausted, stubborn black wench
refused to yield the bus’es front bench.
This heroine of the human race
knew the prejudice she had to face.
We who love freedom should remember
each rebel is a glowing ember.
