When i was a small child
My father read to me
from the musings of Marcus Aurelius.
As a teenager i read the philosophy
of Shopenhauer, Kant, and others.
From these sources i became convinced
that our worlds are our ideas.
Most people seem to think spirits
and spirituality are some sort of
mystery or enigma. They use such words
as woo woo to express this ineffability.
Since i am deeply involved in
a world of ideas, i am aware of my
self-consciousness. Ideas and ideals
are more real to me than physical objects.
It would be difficult for me to think
of gods as one anthropomorphic being.
For these reasons questions such as
“Can spirituality be turned on or off”
suggest that we can manipulate our
spirituality by taking control of our
attitude. Exterior circumstances can
influence our spirituality only when
we allow them to overwhelm self control.
