Gone But Not Forgotten
Reason and rhyme have a simplicity
without an erosion of dignity.
I know that poets in the avant garde
think these are the things we should discard.
Attempting to make their meaning obscure
they think of us rhymesters as immature.
but rhymes can be a mnemonic device
and uplifted spirits are always nice.
You can remember what Longfellow said
no matter how long he has been dead
since it rhymes and we know what he meant.
Do you know where such poetry went?
It has gone to an academic clique
where gobbledygook is what they speak.
